GLAMOUR GAL: Fabienne Costa

Fabienne Costa
Glamour Gal April 2012
Always Let Your Light Shine

When the time came to select our feature Glamour Gal for our April issue, we were looking for a bright and inspiring young lady. One of our beautiful Eco Glamazine readers Katty suggested Fabienne Costa for this feature article. A few minutes browsing around Fabienne's healthy living blog YourCoreLight it was crystal clear that she was perfect to be our April Glamour Gal.

In this exclusive interview with Fabienne, we chat about her amazing organic herb garden, her home country Italy and how she plans to conquer the world lending a hand to orphaned children.

Fabienne grew up in a small town near Rome, Italy. After moving to Australia at the age of five, she embraced her passion of music by playing piano and by the age of eleven she was already writing her own songs. When she was just sixteen years old Fabienne performed in a Duo and then a band on stage at local clubs, bars, weddings and other social events. Two years ago Fabienne underwent vocal cord surgery which then required vocal rehabilitation. Even with the fear of never being about to regain her vocal strength and agility, Fabienne always remained positive and these days Fabienne is singing solo, stronger than ever with a part time career as a talented musician.

"Creativity is experimenting, inventing and growing."
~ Fabienne

You started your music career at a very young age singing on stage in a duo and a band. It's very clear you love singing - How did you get started?
Fabienne: "As a child I was always writing music, singing and expressing myself creatively. Once I had taught myself piano, I realised it was something I really enjoyed and over time, with hard work and dedication it has become my passion. It's now something I want to share with others. As I wasn't naturally gifted with a singing voice, I have had to work very hard to build my vocal agility. However I am grateful for all my experiences, good and bad, as they have shaped the musician I am today."

Follow Fabienne's music journey and hear her sing by subscribing to her new youtube channel.

Growing up as a child in Italy you must have a strong connection with your italian background. Do you have any plans to return to Italy one day?
Fabienne: "A lot of my family lives in Italy so yes, definitely. I have cousins in Italy which I have not seen since I was two years old. It's a beautiful country and I am very proud to be both Italian + Australian."

Just like many of our featured Glamour Gals Fabienne is a vegetarian and embraces a healthy and active lifestyle. She is a passionate animal activist believing in nuturing earth's creatures by leading a kinder, pure and healthy lifestyle everyday.

Fabienne you seem to lead a very busy lifestyle - studying, singing and staying fit. What are some of your favourite healthy Vegetarian snacks when you're on the go?
Fabienne: "Well in my handbag you will ALWAYS find a little bag or container of raw nuts, seeds & Goji berries. So when I am on the go, there is no excuse, because I have my trusty home-made trail mix! I also love to snack on thin-skinned fruits such as blueberries and raw veggie sticks."

Fabienne shares her vegetarian recipes and  green living tips with the readers of her healthy and positive living blog called YourCoreLight. Full of inspiring stories from beauty to food to fitness. One of our favourite articles is Fabienne's DIY Organic Cruelty-Free Vegetable and Herb Garden. Using recycled tins and containers, cruelty-free fertilisers and lots of love, she created a perfect little balcony garden so she always has fresh herbs ready to add to every meal.

We just adore your organic garden, you always have fresh herbs and veggies for your meals. Where do you find your daily healthy diet inspiration?
Fabienne: "As a musician, I have to ensure I am always fuelling my body with fresh and nutritious foods to keep my immune system strong and my voice working at it's peak. To me, it's about creating a habit and then turning that habit into a lifestyle. I love healthy foods and the energy it gives my body, so that continually motivates me. As a vegetarian, most most of my meals being vegan, it does take preparation and a lot of planning ahead. I don't enjoy nor do I ever eat fast-food or soft drinks. A healthy lifestyle and being healthy is natural to me, it's something I value immensely. We are so lucky to be living in Australia and sometimes we can take a simple thing such as our 'health' for granted; when other people, in other parts of the world who don't share our same resources, value health as a life-giving chance."

We love Fabienne's vegetarian Happy Healthy Body eating plan featured on Yourcorelight.

Having a positive healthy outlook of life contributes to Fabienne's beautiful giving spirit. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Nursing at University. She has high hopes of travelling overseas to help lend a healing hand to children in China.

Besides your passion to sing you are also very passionate about helping people. Fabienne can you share with our readers your dreams and aspirations for your career as a nurse?
Fabienne: "In my life, I'm very grateful for all that I have been able to experience and all that I have been blessed with. Therefore I would like to help those that are disadvantaged in the world, achieve better health and better life prospects. I would like to, one day, use the exposure I will hopefully gain as a musician and the skills from my study, to bring light into the worlds of those who need it."

We are truly inspired by your positive, loving and caring personality and how you embrace a healthy lifestyle. Is there someone that inspires you?
Fabienne: "I am very inspired by those who stay strong to who they are and who are not afraid of being themselves. I am inspired by influences such as Lady Gaga, as she has proven that with gruelling hard work and self-belief, you can achieve anything. I also look up to Miranda Kerr as she is such a positive and healthy role model for everyone, of all ages, which I think is important to have."

Do you have a favourite cruelty-free makeup or skincare brand that you like to use in your daily routine?
Fabienne: "I believe it's very important to educate yourself on what products do and do not test on animals, instead of turning a blind eye to it. I am very passionate about using cruelty-free products and being an advocate for the animal; as I do not agree with the horrible way animals suffer all for the sake of superficial needs and vanity. Therefore I am very aware of not only put in my body, but what I put on my skin. My favourite animal cruelty-free products would have to be KORA Organics, which makes up the bulk of my skincare, Sukin deodorant and RMS Beauty Organic make-up."

You are always encouraging others to embrace their inner beauty - what does beauty mean to you?
Fabienne: "I believe that one encapsulates a radiant beauty when they are comfortable with who they are, inside and out. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than when you meet someone who is glowing from the inside out, from their own inner acceptance and love. It's so easy these days for young women, especially, to get caught up in the stereotypes and demands from the media and place these expectations on themselves. So through my blog Yourcorelight, my beliefs and lifestyle, I hope to encourage and inspire women to embrace their light and to aim to be the best version of themselves, not a second rate version of someone else."

"Beauty is in the mirror you look into everyday. Enjoy your being."
~ Fabienne

One of Fabienne's positive affirmations is always let your light shine. She is constantly inspiring others through her social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook and via her blog. Being a creative, positive role model for young women always encouraging them to follow their dreams, believe in themselves and appreciate the earth by embracing natural kind living.

GLAMOUR GAL: Emily Skye

Emily Skye
March 2012 Glamour Gal
DREAM. BELIEVE. COMMIT. ACHIEVE.

Our featured Glamour Gal this month is Australian Fitness Model Miss Emily Skye. We have admired Emily for many years - her passion for fitness and dedication to inspiring others by completing her goals and always pushing herself. She connects with her fans daily through Facebook, twitter and instagram encourages others with her anything is possible, never give up positive attitude. In this exclusive interview with Eco Glamazine Emily talks about how she stays motivated everyday and shares her childhood dream of being a photographer.

DREAM.
Thank you Emily for being our featured Glamour Gal this month. We have admired you for many years, so tell us who do you admire & why?
"Thank you for having me, I am honoured! I admire anyone who pushes to overcome something, anyone who shows dedication and puts in hard work to achieve their goals! I admire Jamie Eason, Lindy Olsen, Erin Stern, Kristen Mathers and Zoe Dally to name a few - they are all fitness fanatics, successful, determined, down to earth, kind and giving! They are always happy to help others which is so lovely to see."

"Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something. If you've got a dream, you've gotta go for it, believe in yourself and know that you can and will do it! When people tell you that you can't do something it's because they couldn't do it themselves. If you really want something, You've gotta do everything possible to get it!"

BELIEVE.

They say beauty comes from within - What does beauty mean to you Emily?
"Beauty to me is being able to see something in another person that I admire - something deeper than what meets the eye. It may be a characteristic, intelligence, being creative, or showing genuine care for people. Being beautiful on the outside is not enough and doesn't last."

Obviously being a model beauty & fashion is important to you. What's your favourite eco beauty secret?
"I make a face mask made of ground organic coffee and organic honey mixed together - it's full of antioxidants and is amazing for your skin."

Apart from being an international model you obviously love being behind the camera with your role as a photographer. What inspired you make the switch?
"I have actually always wanted to be a photographer, ever since I was a kid. I used to develop my own photos while I was at school. I loved art and photography and always excelled at them. I love anything creative and I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to be creative in all different ways for my job!"

COMMIT.
We know you are currently preparing your body again for an upcoming fitness photo shoot, how do you stay on track & motivated?
"I have a clear picture of my goal - it's nearly impossible to achieve something if you don't even know what it is you actually want. I look at photos of the body I want everyday, every time I feel unmotivated I look at the photos and remind myself of what I want and why I want it! If I feel like eating something naughty I look at the photos. I do allow myself some cheat meals every now and then though. This is the MOST important thing to remember: Staying motivated is a constant day to day thing! You don't just become motivated and that's it you are forever motivated! You have to work on it every day. It's the same with everything in life. If you want to change something that you're unhappy about you have to make an effort everyday. Whether it's smoking, drinking, eating unhealthy food, being a doormat - whatever it is - the same rule applies! You're reprogramming yourself to think and act differently to how you were previously. It takes time and it won't happen instantly and the beginning is the hardest part, but if you keep at it, it will get easier every day and eventually it will become part of who you are. The good news is, if you stick to it you will never have to go back to where you started ever again!

"If you want something bad enough you
will work hard to get it."
Emily is wearing Bonita Fitness Wear

Being so positive and motivated we know you love staying active - what are your hobbies/interests when your not working?
"I love spending time with my family and friends, going to the beach, travelling and doing anything active."

Being a professional model you always need to stay in shape. We know you rarely eat sugar - Can you tell us your 5 favourite foods for losing weight?
"Turkey, asparagus, spinach, sweet potato and eggs. I love eating clean and lean. I don't eat food that contains gluten or lactose as they upset my stomach. I have spent a long time working out what foods work best for me. One mistake I think a lot of people make is following "Fad Diets". I get a lot of emails from people asking for advice because they have followed a new diet and become quite sick. Everyone is different and what works for one person might not work for another. Research what foods are good for you. It's all trial and error."

ACHIEVE.

Last year you competed and WON the titled of Miss USA Fit Body & Miss USA Figure. Congratulations Emily. What inspired your journey to this amazing achievement?
"Thank you! I have always admired strong, fit women with muscle definition and I have always been very athletic but wanted to push myself further just to see what I was capable of. I wanted to do something that would take hard work and dedication and it was something a lot of people said I couldn't do, or that I was silly for wanting to do it. I proved a lot of people wrong."

Emily, we love that you are always so positive and down to earth. What's your motto?
"NEVER let what someone thinks or says about you define you. You know who you are better than anyone! Completely remove the negative and poisonous people from your life - to do that means to cut all ties with them physically and mentally. Make a conscious effort to not allow them to affect you in any way. Forgive these types of people for the person they choose to be and let them go. Holding onto hate and anger is not healthy and will only bring YOU down and subsequently makes you unhappy! Take control of yourself, your actions, feeling and your life. NOBODY can take away your happiness without your consent!"

Special thank you to Emily for being our featured Glamour Gal this month. She truly inspires us to push ourselves, showing that through drive and determination anything is possible. The spark inside her shines through. Her beautiful dream, believe, commit, achieve life motto is one we truly admire and respect. We hope this interview inspired you to stay motivated. GLAMOUR GAL: Sarah Jane

Sarah Jane Cox ♥ Fit & Fabulous
Eco Glamazine Glamour Gal December 2011

There was no denying Sarah Jane Cox was the perfect choice to feature as our January Glamour Gal. This Fit and Fabulous Aussie sweetheart stole our hearts last year when she began an intense clean and lean fitness journey. Sarah is a very talented Australian fitness model and is currently working hard everyday to get her body into professional shape. She will be competing in her 1st fitness competition later this year. Sarah's story will inspire, motivate and delight you! Eco Glamazine is honoured to present an exclusive interview with Sarah Jane about her fitness journey, eating clean and lean and the love of her life.

It's a new year and most of our Eco Glam readers have started a new diet or exercise plan for 2012. We know you are currently on your own personal fitness journey - can you tell us about it?
Sarah: "I started going to the gym about 2 years ago. I wanted to start feeling better about myself and needed to pull myself out of this dark hole that I found myself in. I was lucky, I had my fiance Jason who also shared this same goal with me. Being in the Army and having completed certain fitness courses with them, Jason had a wealth of knowledge on just the right way to get me started. Before I knew it we were going for runs outside each day and I started to see an improvement. I stopped needing to walk half way and bit by bit we extended the length of the run until I could run the whole block! (even the huge hill on the home stretch). This just gave me a new lease on life. I fell in love with the health and fitness life that I used to love during my teen years."

What an amazing start to your journey towards a healthier life. You really inspire us Sarah. We want to know, who inspires you?
Sarah: "I found inspiration in one of my beautiful friends Emily Skye to take the next step and try strength training. All I can say to this is... Wow! Why hadn't I ever tried this before!? Through loving my new toned body I started to get curious at the next step I could take. I went along to an INBA Competition to cheer on my best friend Giselle. Whilst she was competing in the body building side, I discovered there was a section called Sports Model. It was exactly what I wanted to do! So I set the goal for myself, to train my little heart out and get up on that stage. Whether I win or lose - I know I will have achieved my goal."

What's the best part of your fitness journey so far?
Sarah: "My fitness journey has also reconnected me with the original career path that I wanted to take when I left school. I always wanted to study Health Science. I am currently doing my Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness and studying nutrition. Many people ask me for health and fitness advice and I have been told that I was their inspiration to get off the couch and get into the gym. This is the best part of my journey."

"Sunday is my favourite gym day"

Do you have any advice for our eco glam readers who may be interested in kick starting Twenty Twelve by joining a gym or beginning a fitness routine?
Sarah: "DO IT! Stop making excuses. I have never felt so good about myself. If you are going to join a gym make sure you go, make the time. Don't just end up "sponsoring a gym". You need to make your health a priority and think of it as a life long investment that you will thank yourself for. If you need help getting your Gym Mojo on - I suggest taking a buddy to make it a social place for you. Get yourself a personal trainer that will  educate you on the basics and get kick started."

Sarah we adore your passion and determination. What motivates you?
Sarah: "What I find motivates me is setting goals and planning each gym session. Change it up and make it fun. If the gym isn't for you then get outdoors. Maybe go for a bike ride, join outdoor boot camps or get involved in a team sport. Just get active and once you get the bug it's just all happy days!"

When it comes to fitness and glamour - who is your celebrity inspiration or role model?
Sarah: "Lisa Marie. She's a host on Body Rock Tv. I'm in awe just watching her video's. I forget I'm meant to be copying her half the time!"

With so many fitness resources available - books, DVDs, online tutorials and fitness/health magazines. What tools do you use to stay focused?
Sarah: "My favourite magazine is Oxygen magazine - endless motivation just like a health bible, really. I'm always researching new exercises or reading blogs, books and watching youtube videos. Variety will keep you interested and motivated. I also have a collection of progress photos of myself. I love looking back, when I first started. Looking at photos of me now, it makes me want to keep going."

"It's great to say you wish you looked a certain way,
when you can! Go and get it"  Sarah Jane Cox

There's no denying that Sarah's passion to keep going, achieving her goals and pushing herself everyday has paid off in more ways that one. She is looking leaner, more toned, sexier and her inner confidences shines through her gorgeous eyes.

If there's one thing every fit girl wants it's those tight sexy Victoria Secret abs. Sarah you have some seriously rock hard abs! What's your secret?
Sarah: "Awww that's so sweet, thank you. There isn't a secret really. The famous saying "abs are made in the kitchen" is so spot on. Pretty much everyone has abs, it's just what you have covering them that needs to go. The best way to do that is through nutrition. So eating lots of clean and lean foods and of course exercise too. Crunches and other abdominal exercises alone won't get you the abs you want, you need to work on the body fats around them too."

Good nutrition plays a very important role in a successful fitness plan. Can you share with our readers some of your healthy eating tips?
Sarah: "The best advice is Clean and Lean. Clean foods are foods that haven't been changed from their natural state. For example, an orange looks like it did hanging on the tree, where as potato chips don't. Clean foods are free from toxins. Toxins are stored in your fat cells. If you are dieting or exercising you can lose the fat however the toxins won't leave your body. They just go back into your blood stream, causing you to feel tired and light headed. Your body then goes into healing mode where it then holds onto fat cells to store the toxins and alas the cycle continues - you're back to where you started. Clean foods don't last for ages as they are free of preservatives. They also don't list sugar in their first three ingredients. Lean foods are the good cuts with minimal fat. I eat six meals a day. I follow a high protein, green veggie diet. I eat good carbohydrates too. Carbs are not that bad for you! Con trey to what you may have heard."

Sarah Jane Cox clean and lean advocate

During her regular gym sessions Sarah stays hydrated by drinking coconut water. A delicious healthy option to refuel your body after an intense cardio workout. Sarah's favourite is CocoBella's "Straight Up" Coconut Water. It's nature's hydrator. Coconut water is the clear fluid found inside young green coconuts. Naturally rich in electrolytes (potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium and phosphorous) making it the ultimate source of hydration and replenishment. It's low in calories (18% lower than most sports drinks). Coconut water has no fat, no cholesterol and no preservatives. Perfect choice for natural hydration.

Our January Glamour Gal not only spends hours in the gym to get those sexy washboard abs, she also has her own small business as a qualified Beauty Therapist - Beauty by SJ.  Sarah has over 7 years experience in the beauty industry include 4 years working for Elle Bache. Want to know Sarah's secret to beautiful skin? Certified Organic Rosehip Oil.
"Straight up let me say Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is a miracle oil! You can use it by itself or mix it with your moisturiser. It's great for uneven skin tones, scaring and hydrating." Sarah's favourite is Trilogy's Organic Rosehip Oil. Read more of Sarah's Great Skincare Tips on her Official Sarah Jane Beauty Blog.

If there is one thing we truly admire in a woman, it's loyalty and dedication. Sarah has both these qualities! She is engaged to a true Aussie hero - her best friend Jason; a solider in the Australian Army. We adore following their sweet moments together via Sarah's Instagram photos.

In our opinion, there's no stronger woman on this planet than an Army wife/girlfriend. So what's it really like being engaged to such a brave Aussie soldier?

Sarah: "I would be lying if I said it was easy. It can get very lonely, sometimes. Your plans can change in an instant because he suddenly needs to go off somewhere. You find yourself being a third wheel, a lot. You share special days with your friends rather then with him and you get used to RSVP-ing for 1 to weddings. You just have to keep busy to allow the time to pass. Although I'm lucky in a way - how many people can say they fall in love over and over again and feel butterflies like it's your first date each time he comes home? It's been good for me, I've learnt to become independent which I think is a great trait for a woman to have. I am so very proud of him, as are our families and friends. It takes a special person to be a soldier and I feel so blessed to have my very own Australian hero that I will be able to call my husband, very soon."

Thank you for inspiring us with your sassy, sexy and sweet fitness journey. We would love to know what your life motto is. Is there a key phrase or quote that you live by Sarah?

"I'm not telling you it's going to be easy,
I'm telling you it's going to be worth it"
I love this quote. It applies to my personal life and my fitness goal.
